"Heheheheheheheh! Do you really think you can defeat a skeleton?!" - Dread Eye

Captain Dread Eye, or simply Dread Eye, is the leader of the Skeleton Crew and the Captain of the Phantom. He is considered to be the most feared being on the seas.

History[]

As First Mate Dread Eye[]

Dread Eye was originally the first mate to the Lord Pyrate and served him among the most feared and notorious pirate crew in all the seven seas. Few could compete with them and they amassed an unfeasible hoard of stolen treasures in their adventures.

Upon discovering a mass of hoarded treasures protected at an outpost by privateers, Dread Eye took charge in assaulting the outpost as the Lord Pirate became ill and was bedridden. They were victorious and took the treasure aboard, the rest of the crew preparing to divide the treasure evenly.

Unfortunately, the Lord Pyrate declared the treasure his own and demanded the treasure be hidden away. He promised rewards and warned of a punishment by means of a terrible curse should they disobey. The Lord Pirate then died immediately after these words, and the terrified crew set out to follow their captain's wishes.

Skeptical, Dread Eye declared the curse to be false and to take the treasure for themselves anyway. After an argument with Second Mate Blue Beard over continuing their mission, Dread Eye locked him in the brig to prevent any possible acts against them. Suddenly, a blue light shone upon the crew and the ship began crumbling apart, Dread Eye and the rest of the crew falling into the sea and washing ashore on a deserted island.

Although they had survived, the curse took effect and everyone in the crew became skeletons, along with Dread Eye. With their newfound immortality, Dread Eye and the crew discovered a whale skeleton and used it to build a ship worthy of their power; Dread Eye's Phantom.

As Captain of the Phantom[]

Dread Eye became aware of the markings on the Lighthouse and how they secretly marked the location of the Lord Pyrate's Treasure. He also became aware of his two competitors for the treasure, Blue Beard's Privateers and the two Sea Marauders crews. Dread Eye's first encounter on the seas was with Sabrehook's Sea Marauders, who were quickly bested in an ambush set by the skeleton captain. Dread Eye then took Sabrehook and cast him into the ship's Maw, draining his soul to power the ship. Dread then set course to return to Skull Haven, expecting the Marauders or Privateers to fall for a trap he had set for them in the bay.

The Phantom Arrived at Skull Haven and found their trap had been sprung upon the Sea Marauders, and began their relentless assault. A fierce battle ensued, the Marauders quickly learning that cannon fire had no effect on the Phantom. Dread Eye dueled a Marauder and was disarmed, but mocked the man when he was pierced through the chest. The Marauders were forced to flee to Treasure Island, with the Phantom following close behind.

Unbeknownst to any of the three crews, Dread Eye had in his possession a Letter of Marque that directed him to the Lost Treasure. A pair of Spyglasses found by the Marauders and the Privateers revealed this fact, and Blue Beard began an assault on the ghost ship. Like with the Marauders, the Avenger was outmatched and Blue Beard was cast into the Maw after a battle with Dread Eye on the Phantom's mast. The Privateers took the Letter of Marque and Carl Carbunkles threatened Dread Eye at gunpoint, only to flee upon learning of Blue Beard's death.

Dread Eye then harvested the souls of Sabrehook. Blue Beard and others to serve him as they made way for the Lighthouse. Upon arriving, they found themselves between both the Stormstalker and the Predator. Dread Eye sent the Lost Souls to the island and began dueling Captain Cutlass, injuring him before he escaped back to the Stormstalker. After a betrayal by the Lost Souls, Dread Eye decided to retreat as to not risk battling the equally immortal entities.

Frustrated by their first loss, Dread Eye began abusing his crew until several skeletons rose up to mutiny him. As punishment, he cast them into the maw to replace the Lost Souls. Some time later, they discovered Rom Ramshackle and took him aboard, the castaway offering his cooperation and to lead them to the treasure in return for his life. As they made their way to the Lost Fortune, Brine betrayed them and killed a skeleton with his scythe before jumping overboard, Dread Eye discovering the only weakness of the Skeleton Crew was their own weapons.

Upon landing at Lost Fortune, Dread Eye sent a majority of his crew to investigate. The Stormstalker and Predator arrived later, and Dread Eye decided to let them battle each other without getting involved. This backfired however, as the Buccaneers retrieved the treasure and escaped the island. Both Cutlass and Dread Eye attempted to ram the Predator, but were outmaneuvered and rammed each other instead. The Predator then successfully fled to Fort Defiance to fortify. Dread Eye's all-seeing eye would lead them to the fort.

When both the Stormstalker and the Privateers were forced to retreat in their attempts to storm the fort, Dread Eye attacked and drove the Buccaneers to barricade themselves inside. They had enough time to get the treasure back on the Predator and escape before the skeletons breached, but several crew-mates were abandoned and left to die. But unexpectedly, Cutlass ambushed Dread Eye and captured him, locking him in the brig on the Stormstalker. The rest of the Skeleton Crew decided to leave him behind and take the treasure for themselves, First Mate Shoveltooth naming himself captain.

Revenge and Redemption[]

Learning of Shoveltooth's treachery as well as his capture of the Predator and the treasure, Dread Eye offered his allegiance with Captain Cutlass to help them take the treasure back. An unsteady alliance between the remaining Buccaneers, the Privateers, the marauders and Dread Eye was made and all parties agreed to split the treasure. Dread Eye refused a cut of the treasure and instead wanted revenge on his traitorous first mate.

In the final Battle against the Phantom, Dread Eye jumped aboard and dueled Shoveltooth, before fleeing up the mast after he is disarmed. The arrogant Shoveltooth mocked him as they climbed the mast and cornered him, only to find the treasure and his crew had already been defeated. In a final moment of heroism, Dread Eye cast himself and Shoveltooth into the maw. Their souls, along with the souls that fell in during the battle, overloaded the ship with power and caused it to explode.

Description[]

In the beginning, Dread Eye was as violent, ruthless, narcissistic and greedy as can be expected from a pirate. He flaunted his immortality and would toy with unwary adversaries. However, in the face of loss, he has a short temper and is very abusive towards anyone he can blame that's not himself. But as their hunt for the treasure continues, he begins to develop a sense of respect towards his courageous foes and eventually resists the temptation of the Lord Pyrate's treasure. Becoming much more responsible and composed, he gave up on the treasure and decided he wanted to become human again. But despite his moral shifts in the course of his life, he is always unafraid of danger and is willing to do anything to win a battle for himself and for those he allies with.

It is unknown how he looked in life, but his attire in life is likely thee same as his attire as a skeleton. He is a Skeleton with a single magical, glowing eye that sees whatever he wants to see. He wears an aristocratic with that ends in a ponytail, covered by a blue tricorn with a golden feather. Unlike other skeletons, he wears a blue coat with iron cuffs and a red bandana around his neck. He has grey pants with a gold-buckled belt and a single black boot on his right foot. He has a hook hand and a wooden leg.
